You see, the world was so intricate and elaborate that comparison to the story was so abstract, it didn’t compute with me after having read the book. Even when I learned what it was a retelling of, I still didn’t know how it was a retelling of that story. The first time I read this book, I had no idea it was a retelling. But the more she searches, the more confused she is about the hidden motives of everyone around her, including her own abilities to see this through. When she suspects Armand might be able to help, she recruits him without letting him know what she was up to.
